Socket Set Screws

Socket set screws are headless fasteners designed to lock one component in place against another—most often securing a pulley, gear, collar, or knob to a shaft. Driven with an internal hex (Allen) key, they install flush with or below the surface, making them ideal where clearance is tight.

American Bolt Corp stocks socket set screws in the most commonly specified cup point, plus cone point, flat point, oval point, dog point, knurled, and brass or nylon tip options. Choose the point style based on how permanent the hold needs to be and how you want to protect the mating surface.

Point Styles & Best Uses

  • Cup Point: Our most common. Strong grip that bites the shaft. Good for general use.

  • Knurled Cup Point: Extra bite for high-vibration set-ups with permanent location.

  • Cone Point: Sharp tip for a very tight, more permanent hold.

  • Dog Point: Tip fits into a hole/slot for precise alignment with permanent location.

  • Flat Point: Won’t dig in. Best for soft materials or parts you adjust often.

  • Oval Point: Holds well with less surface marking than cup or cone. For frequent adjustment.

  • Brass Tip: Protects the surface from scratches or galling.
