Multi-Bin VMI
Contact UsHow the 2-Bin System Works
The 2-Bin VMI method is a visual and physical cue-based system that uses two (or more) bins of equal quantity per item:
-
Bin 1 is used first. Once it's empty, the operator begins consuming parts from Bin 2.
-
A signal is triggered to replenish Bin 1 back to full capacity.
-
Upon delivery, the replenished bin is placed behind the current active bin, maintaining a strict first-in-first-out (FIFO) system.
This approach ensures continuous part availability without the need for constant monitoring or manual tracking.
Key Features and Benefits
Simple Visual Inventory Control - The 2-bin method provides instant visibility into stock levels without needing electronic tracking tools. It’s ideal for fasteners, fittings, or production-line consumables.
Minimized Overstocking - Unlike traditional stocking strategies, our 2-bin system aligns supply directly with consumption, eliminating unnecessary buffer stock and reducing carrying costs.
Scalable for Multi-Bin Use - Though the base model uses two bins, it can be expanded to a multi-bin configuration depending on usage rate, seasonal demand, or production schedules.
Optimized for Non-Lean Environments - When Lean isn’t a priority—but inventory reliability is—this system excels. It provides maximum inventory support without requiring complex implementation or behavior changes from your team.
